Varicella zoster virus (VZV) causes chickenpox and shingles. Chickenpox is a classic childhood disease that can have a serious course in adults and adolescents. It is especially dangerous for pregnant women and people with weakened immunity. After having the disease, a person acquires lifelong immunity. However, the virus does not completely leave the body, it survives in sensory ganglia and can cause shingles during life.
If you are not sure whether you have had chickenpox or if you are considering vaccination against VZV.
Testing for IgG antibodies indicates past disease. At the same time, with a positive result, chickenpox vaccination is not necessary.
