The basophil activation test is a special cellular test to determine possible hypersensitivity to suspected allergens.
The sample should be collected in the morning on an empty stomach while in full health. Before collection for this test, antiallergic medications (antihistamines) must be discontinued for 5 days, other regularly taken medications must be consulted with the attending physician who recommends the test.
Results may also be affected during treatment with some antidepressants or systemic corticosteroids. Therefore, it is recommended to perform the test at least one week after discontinuing these medications.
